India pulverizes yet another attempt of Pakistan to raise Kashmir issue in Maldives parliament

Special Correspondent (New Delhi): In Maldives parliament on Sunday, Pakistan yet again displayed its sinister intention to internationalize the Kashmir issue after the annulment of article 370. However, India amidst the heated arguments very aptly showed Pakistan its place and crushed all its attempt to misrepresent the Kashmir issue.

Maldives is hosting the 4th South Asian Speakers’ Summit on sustainable development goals (SDG). The Summit is intended for Speakers of the Parliaments of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and for the Maldives.

At this forum, India is represented by Harivansh Narayan Singh, Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

First of all, Pakistan’s Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Qasim Suri tried to raise Kashmir issue. He said, “ We cannot ignore the situation of Kashmiris who are facing oppression. They are facing injustice.”

India’s Harivansh Singh strongly objected to it and said, “A country that perpetrated a genocide of its own people has no moral right to speak.”

He also condemned Pakistan for not adhering to the theme of the Summit. He added, “ We strongly object to raising the internal matter of India on this forum. We also reject the politicization of the forum by raising issues, which are extraneous to the theme of the summit.

Harivansh Singh even reminded Pakistan to desert its old path of sponsoring terrorism. He said, “ end cross border terrorism and all kinds of state support for the same,” for the interest of regional peace and stability.

To this, Pakistan Senator Quratulain Marri too joined the attack on India and said, “SDG for women and youth, nothing can be achieved without human rights. The atrocities being meted out on Kashmiris.”

However, on seeing the discussion distracting from the Summit’s theme of SDGs, Speaker Mohamed Nasheed and Maldives Majlis and Excellency Secretary-General IPU Martin intervened to calm down the situation and repeatedly interrupted Marri and Qasim Suri by categorically reminding them to only raise issues relevant to the Summit’s goal.
