Mamata Banerjee may not be in Delhi during Sheikh Hasina visit

New Delhi: MS. Banerjee’s non-participation will cast a shadow on the talks, as both sides have been in negotiations on Teesta water sharing requires engagement with her. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina supposed to visit India from October 3 to 6, Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister is unlikely to participate in bilateral talks to be held in New Delhi.

Ms Banerjee and Sheikh Hasina supposed to be in protracted negotiations on Teesta water sharing. The meeting may affect as Mamata Banerjee is not able to participate in the talk. She was involved in such discussion earlier before. In the Hyderabad House, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Ms Haseena of sharing Teesta water in the presence of Ms Banerjee in 2017.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar prompted Bangladesh regarding India’s commitment to share Teesta water. No progress was expected on the crucial issue during Hasina Sheikh’s visit, diplomatic sources indicated. Apart from holding bilateral discussions with PM Narendra Modi on October 5, Ms Hasina will have a called upon Congress President Sonia Gandhi and President Ram Nath Kovind.

Meeting with Mamata is not in the list yet. From October 4 to 8, Hasina Sheikh will participate in Durga Puja celebration. Discussion to rename West Bengal was done on 18 September 18 between Modi and Hasina sheikh. Mr Modi will hold a conversation with Ms Hasina in New York on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Assembly meeting. The Asian nation leader can begin her Asian country visit by taking part in the non-governmental India Economic Summit (IES).
