‘Moti Bagh’ a documentry about farmer’s struggle bags Oscar nomination

Mumbai: After Emmys, another cheer for India as a 60 minutes documentary ‘Moti Bagh’ depicting the life of a farmer, Vidyadutt—who hails from the hilly state of Uttarakhand—, and how he is living through the adverse conditions and situations that a hilly region Uttarakhand throws at him receives Oscar nomination.

The documentary is unique in the sense that it focuses not only the problems face by the protagonist Vidyadutt but also about his great passion for farming that despite the adversities, he does not equate his work as hard labour but enjoys it thoroughly and thus depicts a farmer’s life in totality.

Nirmal Chander Dandriyal, the director of this documentary, also belongs to the Uttarakhand and it was his wish to return back something to his home state, so he decided to portray the life of a Uttarakhand farmer, Vidyadutt, who is alo his uncle.

For this outstanding documentary he is even lauded by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat for his huge determination and hard work in making this film.

Nirmal Chander expressing his views about his documentary said, “The story is about an 83-year-old-farmer who considered farming as a passion not as hard labor. So I thought that the story of a common man who can get missed by any person should be told on a larger platform. We see so many films being made on prominent personalities, but these are certain people whose contribution in the country gets unnoticed. So through this film, I have tried to portray the activism, poetry, and the passion of my uncle Vidyadutt ji for act and many more which I am sure will be liked by all.”

He also illuminated on his experience through this documentary and how this opened a window to peep through his own life as a city dweller and how this project integarated him more to his roots.

“I belong to Uttarakhand but never stayed here, so making this film was complete eye-opener for me where I got the opportunity to stay around so much greenery, mountains, and a golden opportunity to re-access myself as a city dweller. I must say the film was not challenging for me at all because I had the support of my team and specially Vidyadutt Ji who accepted me so well despite being my uncle.” he further added.

The Chief Minister of Uttarakhad, Trivendra Singh Rawat,very much elated by this International acclaim and poured out his joy on Instagram.
