PV Sindhu clinches her maiden World Badminton Championship title; breaks the Jinx
Special Correspondent (New Delhi): PV Sindhu crushed her own failures by defeating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in straight sets 21-7, 21-7, in the BWF World Championship final. Winning a gold at BWF final is the feat no other Indian has achieved so far.
It was her 3rd consecutive final in BWF world championship and with this historic win she washed out the previous two defeats. Now her world championships medal totals five. She also won Silver in Rio Olympics 2016, a silver in Gold Coast commonwealth games, a silver in Asian Games at Jakarta and BWF world tour finals last years.
Sindhu, who had defeated the world No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying in the quarterfinals was in outstanding form and reflected sheer determination to win the tournament from the beginning. In the final match against the Nozomi Okuhara, she sailed through it. She brutally crushed the Nozomi Okuhara and did not give her any room to bounce back. On the other hand, Nozomi grappled hard to score some points and committed many unforced errors to lose the epic battle.
After winning gold she extended her gratitude to her Korean coach Kim Ji-Hyun and Gopi and dedicated her victory to her mother. Wishes for her outstanding accomplishment poured in from all walks of life. PM Narendra Modi and President Ramnath Kovind too congratulated her on Twitter.
